About time this made it to the forums.
Please discuss anything 'Canes related.
For example:
10-0 to start the season in basketball. Frank Haith has those guys moving in the right direction. Would be nice to try to run the table before they begin ACC play.
Thoughts?? -
Defensive coordinator Walton fired
Hurricanes coach Randy Shannon fired Tim Walton after a season in which the defense, once college football's best, was ranked 30th nationally.

Rivals in notorius for being anti-Cane to the point of moving guys up or down in rankings depending on where they look like they will commit....yet UM has 10 and potentially 11 of Rivals top 100, if they land Matt Patchen, Patrick Johnson and they already got commit from AB....with more to come.
Arthur Brown
Marcus Fortson
Sean Spence
Jacory Harris
Marcus Robinson
Ramon Buchanan
Davon Johnson
Aldarius Johnson...plus plenty more..........
The tide has turned..........8/9 wins next year and competing for NC in 09.alen1 likes this. -

No kidding, I have followed recruiting for 20 plus years, and even though I am a Cane fan, if they get Matt Patchan and Patrick Johnson then this along with USC 2005, Ohio State 2001 and Florida back in 86 or 87 (the Smith/Culpepper/Myles/Dixon/Paulk/McCoy class) will be the best recruiting class I can remember. Way back then you had to actually talk to the Bill Buckhalter's of the world and I was in Florida so I saw a lot of those guys. This class with those Patchan and PJ would be off the charts. Even without those two it is a great class, those two could make it historic. -
ESPN has just announced that #1-ranked OLB Arthur Brown will attend Miami.

I didn't even think about Van Gorder, that is a good thought. Especially with the Falcons coaching staff in shambles, there have already been rumors up here in Atlanta that he wants to get back into the college game. That being said, I think Van Gorder might be a temporary fix and not a long term solution. He would jump ship in a couple of year's when a D-I college comes calling for a head coaching position. I like the Michael Barrow idea, maybe after Van Gorder leaves, but not yet.

had to be done . . . the play calling was attrocious on D this year . . . in the Virginia game . . . they looked WORSE than they did against LSU in the Peach Bowl that year . . . and I thought that would be impossible. I know Randy hasn't gotten his players in yet, and I don't blame him, it was bound to happen . . . but not to have the defense prepared in certain games . . . and to have them going the wrong way on plays is IMO coaching and someone needs to take the fall. To be ranked 30th on D, with top 5 talent just isn't acceptable (top 5 talent because they have arguably 2 of the first 10 defensive player to be selected in the draft . . . Phillips/Campbell)

A 20 win season is possible and so is a tournament berth. We are already halfway there. :wink2:Last edited: Dec 20, 2007 -
OMAR....
TRAVIS BENJAMIN JUST COMMITTED...man this gets better and better!!!
HS Coach is Willie Sneed...ex Gator BTW...... -
Rivals 4 Star Recruit, and previous FSU commit, Safety CJ Holton has give The U a solid verbal commit. Another very solid recruit. Coach Shannon keeps adding to this class to make it one of the best Miami has ever seen.

only thing I'll say is be weary about Forston. He's still committed to Da U, but many insiders believe he is seriously considering going to North Carolina same as Patrick Johnson is seriously looking at LSU and USC. Don't flip out but be weary.
And I don't know about best class ever, but from the classes Coker had given you, and the lack of development from his recruits, yes this is a very good class.
Oh and one thing I'd add; all the guys Shannon has recruited are high character guys, especially Arthur Brown. He could be one of the greatest players to ever play at Da ULast edited: Dec 26, 2007 -
Fluke huh?
12-0 right now . . . playing good ball . . . . real good chance of going 14-0 before ACC play . . . I mean 20 wins is VERY possible.
I agree that we need to see what they are made of in ACC play . . . but they have beaten a few good programs this year. Lemme tell u . . . have u seen the Marlins, Dolphins, Heat, Canes football?
Many of us are super excited about Canes Bball and even Panthers hockey right now . . . don't take that away from us. -
Miami will enter next season without a QB that has thrown a college pass.
Kirby Freeman leaving Miami.

I have nothing bad to say about Kirby, he just was a bad QB. Hope he does well at Baylor. I thought he only had one year of eligibility left, and he'll use that up sitting out a year. Is he just going there to finish school and be closer to home?

Patrick Johnson has officially removed UM from his list. He is now down to FSU, UF and LSU.
All this, per Shandel's blog. Johnson confirmed it.
That kid had been a verbal forever. Looks like Shannon really muffed that one. Johnson said that he was basically ignored since giving his verbal. -

(Basketball)
1 loss and we're dropped from the poll. From #19 to unranked.
There's a 9-3 team in the damn top 25. We're 12-1, come on.
Strength of schedule? What a joke......
Thank God there's at least a tournament. -

Marcus Robinson reconfirms.......

UM Makes the Top 25!
UM B-ball doing what UM football couldn't do all year... Crack the Top 25.
