seeing as how Tannehill's development (pretty sad he'll go from throwing to bums in college to throwing to bums in the pros) and more importantly Ireland getting the axe are the only things I'm looking forward to this year as we play out what's sure to be our 4th straight losing season, I figured we might as well discuss some promising GM candidates that could come in and provide some hope for the future.
Since we heard Philbin was Stephen Ross's personal choice, he could keep him and just replace Ireland with a buddy of Philbin from the Green Bay front office. maybe Russ Ball, their VP of football administration and player finance, who also has a history with Carl Peterson.
then there's also John Dorsey, their director of college scouting, although he's been a part of the Packer organization his entire football related career so it might be hard to pry him away. I remember he was so content that he declined an interview with the Colts for their GM position.
we all know about Eric DeCosta, the Ravens director of player personnel. he's been atop the list of best GM candidates for like 5 years now.
Nick Caserio, Pats director of player personnel.
Marc Ross, Giants director of college scouting. seahawks, colts, and bears all interviewed him for their GM openings. Princeton educated, joined the Giants in 07 after working for the Eagles, where in 2000 at the age of 27 he became the NFL's youngest director of college scouting.
Dave Gettleman, Giants director of pro personnel.
Steve Keim, Director of Player Personnel in Arizona, outstanding eye for talent.
Doug Whaley, assistant GM in Buffalo, formerly the Pro Personnel Coordinator in Pittsburgh, where he worked for 10 years.
as much as I like Philbin and would hate to see him go, if our new GM chooses to fire him, so be it. I'll gladly sacrifice him for the greater good.

normally you don't force a head coach on a new general manager but if Ross was dead set on keeping Philbin I doubt a Russ Ball or John Dorsey wouldn't want to work with him. I think it would be a perfect match, Dorsey's been in Green Bay since Sherman was there.

He's def on the hot seat..last years and this years players much show something this year..He's got to many hits on the resume from the past five, even if they a lot of them were Parcells picks, his picks the past two years must flash.

I think Stringer Bell and Unluckyluciano are Ireland hacks and are paid to come on here and defend him. No matter how many bad decisions he makes or how bad the Dolphins roster is. Because no one can honestly look at this entire roster and actually defend the job Ireland has done in the five years he has been here.

It is pretty obvious we are not going to have a winning season. In fact I think we end up 5-11. I can't help but think Ross has to be committed to Ireland for a longer period then just this year. I just don't believe he would bring in a new coach and force this new coach to get off the ground with a guy that maybe next year he would replace. Like it or not Ireland is here for at least 2 more years.
I personally support him. He has been around football since he was 11. Jeff Ireland knows football. Jeff Ireland has made some mistakes and will make more. A GM drafts based on a player fitting a certain mold. A GM has very little to any control on developing the players he gives the coaches. Developing the players is the coaches job.

so what are you going to do all year? Just sit there and complain about how much your team sucks and how the GM should be fired? Speaking for myself, if I couldn't look forward to watching my team play the best sport in the world (at least the first few games right?), I'd want to do something else. Man, life is too short to be so negative and bitter about your team. Do something else that you enjoy. Or do you enjoy coming here and complaining about your team?

I want Ireland to have ONE more year next season. I'm a HUGE fan of this draft honestly and believe in all of our picks rounds 1-4 and it seems even RM may be a decent player in the 7th. I'd have loved a WR earlier but you only get so many picks. I think Ireland actually did a good job this offseason setting us up for a promising future even if this season is rough.

As an admitted Ireland hater, you gotta wait until the team starts 1-6 or 0-7 before you start this thread.

I listen to sports talk radio here in Miami and I can assure you that the vast majority of callers to the shows, along with the majority of the hosts of these shows, share your view that Ireland needs to go. I have seen season tickets sales decrease by over 20,000 season ticket holders in recent years. I think this decrease in fan interest is directly related to these fans feeling that the team is headed in the wrong direction with Ireland as the teams GM and, Ross's refusal to make a change at this most important position.
Ross decided to retain Ireland and therefore as a Dolphin fan, I can only hope the team is a lot better this year than I anticipate they will be. I think this should be a defining year for Ireland and if the team once again finishes below 500, he should be fired. Of course Ross is the owner and he has the final say. I just have to wonder how many more season ticket holders will refuse to purchase season tickets for the 2013 season if the Dolphins have another losing season and, Ross keeps Ireland.
