I was very critical of him,but u can't deny that he finds hidden talent,Clay,Wilson,Clemons,Jones...and Michael Thomas..if he would do better at 2nd Rounders.. like what im seeing besides ol which needs three good players...

talk to me at the end of this season.

I said this last year, if I was Ross I would make a council up of Philbin, Sherman, Coyle, and Rizzi and let them decide if he stays.

Heyl NO!

Sure, this team has shown plenty of promise
Honestly?
Joe Philbin is officially a keeper. A great hire. I'd let him decide.unluckyluciano and texanphinatic like this. -
I think it's difficult to justify firing him if the team makes the playoffs and Tannehill continues playing well.
It's funny, he's been maligned despite better than credited talent acquisition because QB play and team record wasn't good enough, and now he's likely to be retained after a bad offseason because the QB looks good and a prossible playoff slot. -
Nope. This team is winning because of Philbin. In spite of the situation Ireland put them in with a week offensive line. I did say at the beginning of this season if Miami improved to 9-7 Ireland would keep his job. Doesn't change my opinion of the man. He'll still botch drafts and free agency. And he still has a personality made of dog ****.

I think there should absolutely be an extensive review, but I think he gets a fair shake. I think this team is winning in spite of him rather than because of him. Philbin is the winner from this streak though.

I said after the Bucs game that if we make the playoffs, im all good with this staff and gm.
I'll stick to that.Griese's Glasses and mroz like this. -

Just wait until the offseason please.
If we make playoffs and go 10-6, 9-7, I think he should stay. -
How much credit do you give the coaching staff on the razor-thin margin of two games lose-able on the last play or nearly the last play? -
No, I'd can him. Keep Philbin if we make the playoffs, or even if we go 10-6 but so do the Ravens and we don't make the playoffs, but Ireland should go either way.

I think he's staying no matter what.
Personally I still lean towards firing because of the apparent disconnect with his coach. I'm not a fan of dysfunction.
Many of his moves are now panning out. But I do not absolve him of his previous sins. For example, acquiring McKinnie was the right move, but it should have come 3 weeks earlier like we were screaming. He also reportedly had no idea Eugene Monroe was available.

No way you fire Ireland if the Fins make the playoffs. Not many people were expecting the Fins to be 8-8 or better before the season started… everyone was pointing to next year… Ireland has done a good (not great) job so far.
-
Absolutely. Before the season, I and most people were saying that if the Dolphins made the playoffs and Tannehill was looking like a franchise QB that everybody would be retained. With respected people like Polian and Casserly praising Miami for their young talent and cap positioning and saying the Dolphins look like playoff contenders "for a long time" it would be silly to fire the guy who had a large part in assembling that team.

But, I think if the team wins out, he is safe. -
Yes. keep him. Let him finish the puzzle he started. The pieces are starting to come together.
-
They lost to the mother****ing Bucs immediately after that story dropped, and then went back to their normal play for this season. That's not an amazing example of team being guided by a steady hand at the rudder, it's if anything closer to crappy handling of the situation for all the gravity it had on the players themselves. -
-
It's funny how everyone wants to give Philbin credit now when everyone wanted to fire him a month ago.
I've always been a fan of Philbin and thought he deserved more time. I'm glad others are coming around.the 23rd likes this. -

Keep saying it. We could definitely do better than Ireland, but we could also do much worse. He's built a good defense. We have a good QB, good WR corps (Mathews has really panned out for replacement for Gibson. can't wait until next season when they both can play). Keller injury sucked, but Clay has been very good in his place.
IMO, we spend a chunk of our FA money on Oline. Ireland can't draft linemen, so let's spend on the position.
Ireland stays if we win the next two games, regardless of whether we win in the playoffs. -
The fact is, we should never be in a position where we are relying upon free agency to patch holes in the team. You should be able to draft well enough that you don't have to venture into free agency for anything.
No, I would not bring Jeff Ireland back as the GM of this team.Aquafin likes this. -

Starting an Ireland thread kinda opens a Pandora's box, but the bottom line, at this time, is that the one person who makes those decisions has elected to keep him. What happens in January ( dare I say February), is yet to be decided.... But all of us wants this team to finish this season in the playoffs, and if that happens....well the Irish haters won't be happy...
-
Even if we go 10-6 and manage a playoff win? It will be despite the OL Ireland put together and the LB corp he revamped. It is amazing, AMAZING we are winning after scraping together an OL from an old vet LT and some no-name dudes. Ireland has been average in his GM run here in Miami -at best. Why not risk getting a GM that can build a better team than that?
I'm for keeping Philbin, for the sake of Tanny having a smoother development. As much as he has grown as a QB, his third year should see him hitting his stride.
