Back on topic...I know the stats say Andrea Bargnani was a bad player last year but as bad as he was last year here's a good read on how good he was in 2012 and how it can help the Knicks stretch the floor. Im more convinced then ever hes going to have a good year and give NYK some secondary scoring that they desperately need. Ill take the under and be right. There is no way he will increase his usage to average 17 ppg, considering how inefficient he is.

I think he can and will. he did it with Bosh around a few years back and averaged more then that when he was the go to guy. Hes not a star but I think he will have a nice bounceback (notice I didnt use the word rebound) year.MikeHoncho likes this.

I guess we will find out. He cant possibly give the Knicks less then some of the players they started last year. After Kidds hot start the first 25 games or so he was done. Prigioni is good at getting the ball up court and pushing transition when its there and he can shoot but doesnt do much else.

Simple numbers.
While Bargs is out there..he must play PF or C. Every PF and C in the NBA will outrebound him by 50 points in Reb. Rate. So he will have to hit threes to win a matchup by points, since he won't win it by FG%. Trying to rely on Volume scoring to win a matchup to tilt a lineup is a recipe for disaster. it is more of a disaster when you try to do it with a PF or C.
His spacing just doesn't offer enough. He is not an accurate enough shooter to make a difference in that regard. He would bust in Miami, and that is saying a lot for a "shooter". -

That may be true but it happened with a different set of circumstances. As the circumstances change its difficult to use that same criteria to predict future events. For instance, hes never played with a scorer like Carmelo. How will being the secondary scoring option instead of the primary scoring option help or hurt him? How will playing with a Center like Tyson whose range is limited limit his game? Historically his stats as a C are much worse then as a PF. IMO that alone helps him. Having a big that can handle the opponents best offensive big helps him as well. Criteria changes and personnel changes so outcome cant possibly be predicted accurately unless we somehow absorb his stats in to the Knicks style of play and the way players on the Knicks play.dolfan32323, finyank13 and Section126 like this. -
the good thing is that he will play and we will get to see it play out.
What is funny is that at a younger age..I was a lock down defender, and slasher...with a mediocre to bad jump shot.
Now that I am older...I can't guard a bus stop, I can;t get by anybody, and the only thing I can do well is shoot jumpers.

Yes getting old does suck. I won "Best Defensive Player" growing up as a teenager in basketball camps. I wanted the other teams best player to be locked down. And I did. Jump shot was ok (not great or terrible) and forget about driving. I was basically Bruce Bowen minus being a dirty SOB. Now my jumper is ok still, my range is very good, I can definitely drive to the hoop now but I cant guard very well. Funny how things change. :(finyank13 likes this.

I'm sure Bynum is just using the Cavs to get the Cleveland Clinic to give his knees a clean bill of health, but can you imagine if they locked him up?
You'd have Bynum, Varejao, Thompson, Bennett and Zeller rotating as your bigs, with Dion Waiters, Kyrie Irving and Jarrett Jack as your guards. Small forward would be a big pile of garbage, but if Bynum were healthy that's actually a pretty fun lineup. -

Then he'd have to play an extra year in Cleveland with no extension and become a FA at the end of that season. And they'd trade him during that year for sure.
But he's also missed 25% of his games and came into the league injured. So I REALLY doubt he'd risk that. I don't think anyone has turned down the rookie extension ever, have they? Even when Eric Gordon was pouting about the Hornets/Pelicans matching Phoenix, he opted to sign rather than play the year without a contract in place for the next year. -

Ehh, from what I understand Boik has some sort of "inside" Info on the matter. I didn't put that in quotation marks to doubt him, but because I don't really know how to classify what he knows but can't or won't share in the thread.
So if I had to guess, at this point Kyrie to NYK has more traction than LeBron going there ever did. -

I'm only to a point about 4 minutes left in the 1st half of the next Heat summer league game (and I have to discontinue until tonight due to my wife having a friend over and occupying the big TV) but already you can tell just from the first 6 quarters that Ian Clark is a keeper and the Heat should look for a way to keep hold of him. I think he can play some point guard if you give him time to learn it, and at the very least he becomes a bench scoring option like a Gary Neal or Jason Terry. He unleashed at the beginning of this game and for a while it was purely all him. Then they took him out and when they put him back in he was cold for a bit, but even so he still heated back up.
Call me a sucker for athleticism but the other keeper to me is D.J. Stephens. That guy has sticks of dynamite in his ankles and every time they go off, he's dangerous. Right now he's mostly a defender and rebound man, just like he was in college...even at 6'5". But give him time and I think he's an offensive weapon. He doesn't have a bad shot, and his pure jumping ability gives him the ability to finish at the rim. What he doesn't do is look for the ball or try and create his own opportunities, which is a shame. He needs a little bit of a mental makeover that way. But there's so much physical talent there between his speed and that incredible jumping ability that it shouldn't be impossible to foster more aggressiveness out of him. He didn't play much until his final year. He can be developed. But you put the guy out on defense and he goes up so incredibly high for shot blocks that he is altering players' shots. Because of his ups and its tendency to make him a natural rebound man, he's learned to become physical near the rim in trying to get position for rebounds too. It's not just the ups. He's not some two guard with incredible ups that only uses them for offense and never learned to be a rebounder. He's the opposite, a rebounder that worked hard on being a good rebounder and now has to learn to use those ups for other things. And I like that. Anyway, that's my take on it. I'd look for a way to keep him.
Jarvis Varnado is a good player but sometimes he looks like just another Joel Anthony, and then sometimes he doesn't. But he is also a keeper. He's got too good shot blocking ability, and he's too athletic for a big to just let him go.
Myck Kabongo so far has been a greek tragedy. He's clearly overwhelmed. Maybe that'll fall away but right now he's not seeing anything at all and doesn't know what to do out there. He's got some natural skills that can take over at times but he's got no plan of attack and he's clearly out of his comfort zone.
And yet the most tragic player on the floor is still by far D.J. Kennedy, who can barely get anything right.
Hopson actually turned things around a little bit. He's had the look of a guy that can create, but in the first game he finished practically nothing that he tried to create. This time around, he's finished a few of those and looked good doing it. He's tall, athletic, a ball handler and a creator. If he can learn to finish more consistently then he could be a keeper. Seems like one of those guys that could just be a good all-around basketball player.
James Ennis...still just not doing anything. He needs to be a pure shooter that can pull it down and attack the rim every now and then, and be athletic on defense, but if that's what you are those shots have to fall, you have to not turn it over, and you have to...you know, actually play some defense. He's not doing any of the three consistently.
Cedrick Jackson looks like a waste of space in the mold of D.J. Kennedy. And yet he might be the best point guard I've seen out there the last two days. That's saying something.
Last is Dewayne Dedmon. His plus characteristic he's shown the last two days has been his passing which I think is surprisingly good. But he's just a little too slow out there and not fundamentally sound enough to be the strong defender and rebounder that his archetype calls for being.
Think Ethan Skolnick brings up a good point...Jarvis Varnado and Ian Clark are each unusually good at one thing. Whether it's compelling enough to be on THIS roster...we'll see. I would add that D.J. Stephens is unnaturally good at one thing.Section126, dolfan32323 and #1 fan like this.
