What's the deal with Omar always referring to Burnett, as Mr Kevin Burnett? Is this some sort of extra salutation for his current #1 man crush?

 

Last year Burnett wanted to fight Omar over something he said. I think this is Omar's passive aggressive *****footing revenge.

I noticed that too...not sure why he always refers to him as Mr. Kevin Burnett. It is Omar we are talking about so who knows. Good to see he is back in practice though.

What the hell is the deal with Dansby? Anyone think he could be being punished for his comments on CJ's release?

I completely forgot about that...Burnett out of frustration went ape **** in the locker room on Omar in the midst of our 0-7 start.

I think Burnett went off on Kelly telling him "put on some pads, homeboy." Seemed more frustration based on their overall record than anything else but at 0-7... you really have no room to talk.

 

Burnett and Omar got into it in the locker room when Burnett first got here. Omar was critical of the defense in a newspaper article especially linebackers and Burnett, took it as a personal attack, really got into his face and had to be separated. He refers to him as Mr. to show respect and get respect from Burnett.

 

To me he sounds horribly bias towards his preconceived notions.

 

To me he sounds like a pompous, arrogant, self important jerk. I respect humility. People who really got it NEVER need to toot their own horn.

 

It's stuff he doesn't know that he doesn't know that kills me. He's very confident in his ignorance. "i haven't seen Griese at any practices" in response to Bob saying that Tannehill looked like the future to him. Then on Hardknocks we see Bob watching Tannehill film with the head coach... Why not ask when and where Bob saw Tannehill, you’re a reporter right? There used to be an expectation that reporters investigated before reporting, that they dealt in facts, not opinions.

 

Yup. Trusting Omar would have lead us to believe that Griese didnt have a clue what he was talking about. In fact, a lot of us hear dismissed the praise based on Omar. And then....oh, he is sitting with coach Philbin watching tape on our new QB!

 

If you just listened to the comments on Griese around here, (mainly from snot nosed wet behind the ears kids who never had the privilege of seeing him play, seeing him win a Rose Bowl against a highly favored USC team to cap off a season when he was the Heisman Trophy runner up to Steve Spurrier), he is seldom sober enough to tie his own shoes. It's shameful the lack of respect Griese gets from the younger generation of Dolphins "fans".

Griese's take on our current situation means nothing. Great former QBs are inherently no better at talent evaluation than anyone else. Alcoholic ones are even less.

I love what Griese brought to this team...hell I think they should always publicly toast when the last team loses their first game...but his opinion means nothing more than anyone else's.

 

Just remember that Omar thought a 3 technique referred to a defender being responsible for 3 gaps along the front. Just sayin'.

 

I don't know that you can really defend the quality of Bob Griese's contributions as a broadcaster on Dolphins pre-season games. I understand that it's a hard job, and one I probably couldn't do any better, but he's god-awful. He is bad identifying players, he's bad coming up with meaningful commentary, and he's got no chemistry at all with the other two guys who are equally lacking. I don't know if it's because he's old, or because he doesn't really take it seriously or what, but he's awful. I don't really know if he was ever a good professional announcer, either.

I was born after he retired, but I think you can be respectful of his ability as a quarterback and his place in Dolphins history while accurately assessing his contributions to preseason games.

 

The issue is Omar's take on Griese's take; that he wasn't present.

 

He knows what he's talking about as far as the average sportswriter does, the difference is Kelly is basically willing to make it up or act like he knows if he doesn't. Like Conuficus mentioned with the 3-gap thing, Kelly frequently does not know as much as he thinks he does but seems to have no awareness or care for the fact.

 

It depends if they want to be. If they want to take the time to study. There is no way a typical fan understands the nuances of playing QB better than someone who's done it at a high level for years. It just depends on whether that former QB wants to take the time to properly convey his knowledge to the more ignorant masses.

 

Really? I think he's probably the least knowledgeable sports "writer" I've ever seen. His tough guy act is insecurity. Someone calls him out and he has to remind everyone what his job is. "Hey, I'm not horrible! I do this for a living!". He's a fan with a degree in journalism. Which tells you a lot about journalism degrees. (Offense most certainly meant to anyone here with a degree in journalism)

 

Yeah, I know. I hold Omar's abilities in even less regard.

 

And Einstein theory of relativatity should not bear any more weight than anyone else opinion on the subject.

Griese is a HOF ,2SB champion QB making an educated opinion on a subject he knows a lot about......quarterbacking.Of course his opinion bears a lot of weight.:pity:

 

Have to differ, FinD. A guy who played in college and the pros at a high level, especially a quarterback, probably has more knowledge about the game than someone who watches it, no matter how carefully. More involvement behind the scenes.

 

I disagree completely.

Talent evaluation for a given discipline is an ability most don't have and having been apart of that discipline doesn't give a person that ability.

 

If what you guys are saying were true then the only great coaches and gms and scouts would be former great players.

Michael Jordan can't recognize talent if it hits them in the face. Being good at something, is different than coaching someone else to be good at it, or recognizing if someone else will be good at it. Those are 3 distinct talents.

Some can do two, or even 3. But their ability in one, has nothing to do with their ability in another usually.

 

I remember when a Dallas (IIRC) defender said that TB couldn't spell cat if you spotted him the 'c' and the 't'. That was before the Super Bowl. Bradshaw subsequently added another ring to his collection.

 

I'm not sure if QB'ing is an apt comparison, but I can tell you that I can probably evaluate a pitcher as well or better than most former Major League pitchers, because I did it for so long. Was I as as good as they were? Of course not, but I see the same things as them.

I'm sure it's no different in this case. Just because Griese was a great QB doesn't necessarily mean his opinion is worth more than someone elses, given that that someone also knows how to evaluate the QB position.

That said, Griese is right and Omar is wrong.
