Its like that SF, who has a bunch of cap space, gave up the 3rd round pick with the intention of resigning Young to a big deal if he's good for them. There's no way that Miami can afford that.

We also need to make sure that we get long term answers with our high draft picks next year, because we're going to lose a bunch of people and need to replace them cheaply.

Not every player is available to all teams, some GM’s contact one or two teams when theyre targetting certain draft positions, some teams contact teams the player may be interested in.

Im sure many wanted Tyreek Hill, he wanted to play in Miami, so KC made a call to us asking if we are interested and we made an offer. Same goes for Ramsey, he so badly wanted to play in Miami, LA called Miami.

NFL trades are not like other sports or leagues, its a lot more complex.. in the NBA you can attach matching salaries and drsft picks and make the trade. In the NFL, the salary cap is much more complicated; which is why i kept saying all this Devante trade talk the media has been talking is complete nonsense.. same as the caleb williams to arizona draft talk.. the salaries Murray and Devante has means theyre almost impossible to move.

 

Yeah they need to focus on resigning and hitting on picks to keep the team. They should really be trying to keep this team. Not sending a 3rd for a player that needs to be resigned at the end of the year. They got Ramsey for a 3rd.

 

Paying Tua will help the cap situation for next year. After that not so much.

 

We don’t need to let anyone vital go next year if we don’t want to, the cap isn’t as bad as it seems right now.

Ogbah, Baker and X won’t see that money, then you give Tua his new deal and that saves a lot against the cap next year. Those 4 moves alone will probably save over $40M. Then they can probably restructure Tyreek to give him more guaranteed which would save a lot.

They have plenty of options to move cap space around next season. 2025 is the year big decisions need to be made.

 

It's not possible if you are wasting 3rds on 1/2 season rentals of players like Chase Young. Whose snaps does he take? How does using a third on a pass rusher make any sense with Ogbah and Gink already on the team as depth? Young isn't better than Phillips or Chubb. I'm not sure he is better than Gink. The cap is manageable if you draft smart. 40M over will be gone with a few obvious moves.

Since 2020 the Dolphins have drafted B Jones, H long, C Tindal, and Achane in the 3rd. That's a 50% hit rate counting Tindal as a miss and not an incomplete. Rookies make much less money than free agents or veteran trades. They can have nice toys and keep them, or replace them cheap if they let Greir Grier. He turned a 3rd into Ramsey. That's going all in for this year and a few years after. Not wasting that capital on your deepest position on defense.

 

Miami is 4th in sacks. With our best pass rusher hurt for a good chunk of the season. What problems do you have with the pass rush, and whose spot would Young take? Gink has one less sack and double the tackles as a back up at OLB and ILB.

 

I believe they are also towards the top in pressures and QB hits.

And after a rough first game vs LAC, they're up to T12th in average rush against.

We are discussing a trade for Chase Young. Not Myles Garret.

 

I like Young, but I think he benefits greatly from having three other really good linemen playing alongside him (Why they aren’t as effective as in the past couple years is a story for a Commanders thread). Plus, he’s missed a lot of time since he was drafted.

Like someone else said, I would have liked to trade for a TE, but didn’t really hear any interesting names floated out there. I think maybe they will try to utilize Claypool in that role - not necessarily where they line him up, but in the routes he runs - especially in the red zone.

We have a good defense and it’s been getting better week after week. The pass rush is so good the only way the Eagles we’re able to stop it was hold our rushers all night long…and get away with it.

 

And we paid what for Chubb?
