You may remember that some of us here were chanting "We Want Moore!! We Want Moore!!" for a number of years now, and it honestly had nothing to do with Tannehill. He's just the ultimate leader that players love, and he plays fearless football for sixty solid minutes. I wanted to give everyone a little background on him though so you can understand how good this guy really is.
In 2009, Moore came off the bench in Carolina and threw for over 1,000 yards in the final couple of games with an 8/2 TD/INT ratio and a 98.5 QBR. They decided right then that he was their franchise quarterback....despite being drafted by the team in 2007. He did play a little in the '07 year but a really bad series of concussions kept him out for 30+ games.
In 2010, Moore got brutalized with another big hit to the head and they kept him out a couple of games. The Panthers line was deplorable back then so it's no place for a guy with concussions, but they threw him back in anyway and he kept taking hard hits to the head. Towards the end of the season he was darn-near a zombie on the field, yet he kept trying to be competitive and the Panthers left him on the field. He put up a 55.6 rating that year and probably should have retired.
2011 was the year Moore came to Miami and ultimately started over the last nine games. He went 6-3 in that stretch and the team fell in love with him...the guy would throw an easy pick and walk off the field laughing. Then on the very next drive, he'd launch a 70 yard TD pass and all was forgiven; the players were nuts over the guy because there was always a chance to win. He finished the season with an 87 QBR and seemed a lock to start in 2012...the year we grabbed Tannehill.
You guys know the rest though- Tannehill came in and has started ever since. The team kept Moore around though because he's such an amazing presence in the coaching rooms and on the field...he's a lot like Manning in that regard. Only, he definitely does not have Manning's discipline...he plays like a Brett Favre and takes lots of chances when he's feeling hot. The coaches don't generally like it but Matt wins more than he loses, and the players are ready to die for the kid on any given Sunday. A lot of people say his vision is his best trait and also his biggest curse- he will launch a rocket to a guy that's open by two inches.
Now, I'm not going to compare Moore to Tannehill here because I'm biased- I've always loved Moore and thought he should start in Miami. Tannehill is the better pick overall because he's more of a complete player, but Moore brings so many intangibles that can't be coached. His instincts are off the charts and he's such an amazing leader.
At this point though, five years later, I am a bit nervous because-
1) Moore always plays fearless
2) Moore took a concussion in preseason and took forever to recover
3) Moore will play hard until he's knocked out of the game
That doesn't mean I don't trust his abilities though- I truly believe we have a better chance of closing the year 3-0 under Moore than we do with Tannehill. And that's because he plays so differently...the Pats and Bills are watching tape from 2011 to figure out what to expect. That's a huge benefit from any backup and Moore isn't your typical scrub, so I really like our chances here.
Anyway, that's the good and the bad on Matt Moore. If you don't count his concussion-filled 2010 season, he's been a low 90's QBR his entire career and he doesn't hesitate to put the team on his shoulders. Hopefully that won't be a problem with our starting line and Mr. Ajayi...just pray Matt doesn't take any hard hits upstairs. But if our line plays well and we develop a run game in these last three- watch out folks! Moore is going to be taking shots down field all day long to open receivers. That's just who he is and our ability to score will be amplified over these next few weeks.

We all know how much coaches love it when guys throw a lot of picks. The defense loves it too.

Most people, myself included think he will do fine. Thankfully we have Gase. Matt Moore is what he is. a career backup with almost a 1:1 td int that QB starved teams have passed up in FAs. I dont think he is that good of a QB but i think he is a VERY good back up to have. A nice guy by all accounts, a good leader and a gamer. My comments are more catered to people who think he is a better player than Tannehill in any aspect of the position. Which is laughably false. Might not have always been that way but it is now. I'll be cheering my *** off for him.

And by the way, my opinion was that Moore was better than Tannehill in 2012- that's it. You can't compare a guy who's sat on a bench for five years to a young player that's turned the corner, so there's no sense in arguing it. All I'm saying is that doesn't mean Moore doesn't bring a lot to the table...including some things that Tannehill doesn't have.Redwine4all, dolphin25 and bigballa2102 like this. -

In my opinion, (which is worth as much as **** on a boar) but I think this may help Landry and ajayi the most with Moore's unconscious tendencies to push the ball down the field the defense is going to have to play a lot more straight up and not stack the box. the jets are going to find this out early in Saturdays game and landry will kill over the middle and ajayi will have a good game 110+. Miami -2 is a lock for Saturday.

Let's not pretend the We want Moore chants were because he's just some great (backup) leader and some amazing diamond in the rough QB or something and that it had nothing to do with Tannehill lol. The chants were 100% due to Tannehill not playing well (and a portion of our fanbase being delusional when it comes to the QB position). Even when Tanny was playing bad most of us were saying you aren't going to get too much better with Moore out there.

Matt Moores a fine qb, he's just not elite. Kinda like Matt Ryan and Russell Wilson in the playoffs lol

Whatever it takes to win mentality..sh$$ ain't there just make a play...
After not playing for 5 years I'm sure he's gonna be crappin in his pants before the game..same with his wife..
I think the team will play inspired ball, each person playing that much harder because of Ryan's toughness will accumatively be to much to stop.Fin-O and LI phinfan like this. -

There is no discussion of Tannehill vs Moore here. Moore is the sole subject of conversation and I was trying to educate folks on his path to where he is today. Because like it or not, he's starting Sunday and its in your best interests for him to play well. I was just trying to show why some people truly like Moore...and your flames show that the post was needed. -
And to follow that up with your narrow opinion of what Tannehill fans thought of Moore when Tannehill was tanking games...that's just priceless. Of course you were too disillusioned to think that there may be another option at QB.dolphin25 likes this. -
I've seen Matt Moore play enough. I know what he is.
And I'm scared. -
Can you explain what this even means? He has career 33 TD 28 INT. He's the epitome of an average back up QB. I have lived in Charlotte NC since 2006, this guy threw up prayers to Steve Smith for the majority of his time in Carolina. Once teams got tape on him, he was **** out of a sewer pipe.
BUT WHY?!? He had the amazing leader, with off the charts instincts, comparable to Peyton Manning sitting in the wings all along. That's why all those fans chanted "WE WANT MOORE!" they allllll knew what we had, and nothing against Tannehill, it wasn't about him or his play, all those drunk fans in the crowd chanting, knew more than NFL folks that literally do this for a living.
Got it. Ok. This all makes sense.
I hope Moore kills it the next couple weeks, but this post is all completely biased, filled with hyperbole, and not needed at all.
Not because of the responses, and US NEEDING TO KNOW, but because Matt Moore is exactly who we mostly on here and he himself knows he is.

He came here to Miami in what was a faux-competition for Henne - then life intervened, Henne went down, and after a few games he got his footing underneath him to the point of being named Team MVP. He's a pro-style offense guy .... loves to feed off the play-action and not afraid of taking shots down the field. The part I liked the most was how much his teammates fed off his energy.
I wish he had gotten a fairer shake to prove he could start, but the we had that garbage three QB competition between he/Garrard/Tanny. Would've rather seen just he and Tanny battle it out.Last edited: Dec 13, 2016 -

Matt Moore is about as good as Shawn Hill or any good back-up. He is more of a gun slinger type, who will throw the ball up and let the wide receiver make the play. He is also the type of guy who you watch and wonder, "Why in the **** did you throw that ball?!?!?!"
There is a reason his passer rating is just below 80.Superself, Aqua4Ever04, dWreck and 2 others like this. -

Gentlemen,
Can we stop bickering because he posted something positive about Moore? Even if he winds up being incorrect, at least he has hope and is bringing in his perspective. Some of you argued to the death about Tannehill when we continually finished 6-10 and 7-9 with a stagnant offense. Now that he's been given the benefit of the doubt and some of your points have been proven correct, most of us on the fence have come around.
We got flamed for having an opinion and now you guys are doing the same.
Can't we just be happy that we have a veteran backup QB that may lead us in to the playoffs instead Ray Mucas 2.0 or Joey Harrington?Dolphins Dad, Fin-O, dolphin25 and 2 others like this. -
Damn, just enjoy the ride. Moore is the best and only option Miami has now. He can play competent quarterback. It's not like they are going to be playing a rookie who has never taken an NFL snap before. He's obviously a respected veteran from every report I've read.
Hopefully he can play out of his mind for two games.dolphin25 likes this. -

Disagreeing isn't flaming. As long as we keep the criticism to posts and opinions and not posters. Oh, and you have to agree with me.

I don't understand why people are arguing over semantics. We all want the same thing Saturday, don't we? For that to happen, Moore has to play a good game. It would be the same for Tannehill. Tannehill is the starter. We all know that. However, since he's out, we need Moore to play well in his absence. I like that KeyFin gave us a little background info on Moore. Frankly, I am a little concerned, but feel a little better after reading his post. He's no Tannehill, but the potential is there. Hopefully, Gase can help him with the turnovers.
-
With that being said, there is no need for a hostile discourse on the matter. Key is entitled to his opinion and doesn't need to be belittled or mocked for it.dolphin25 likes this. -
