Grier's incompetence is unbelievable. He had all offseason to get a competent backup for an injury prone Tua and best we could do is Skylar Thompson? Now we are scrambling to find some pactice squad QBs from other teams mid season.

I think he's basically retired. He had a perfect opportunity to compete for a starting position against backups in Minnesota and GB but apparently that's not good enough. If that's not good enough, then nothing is. I think he's made his decision to retire, excepting some rare case where he might be guaranteed the starting role without a competition.

 

McDaniel is 1-7 without Tua. The one win being a 9-6 win against the Jets.

Is it too early to start tanking for Arch Manning? Throw in the towel for the next two seasons and trade Tyreek & Waddle for a bunch of 2026 1st rounders. This team is going nowhere without Tua. We'll be 1-6 by the time he's ready to play and by then what's the point?

You know what always amazes me? Dan Marino. I know he is more of just a figure head in the organization, but you would think that when he talks to all the guys in charge he expressed his concerns, desires and what's best for them at least from for the QB position, it would carry some weight. I mean his opinion has to carry some weight in that regard. It's amazing that he would support drafting Tua and then, especially support giving him such a big contract based on what we've seen. Tua, altogether, has missed almost an entire season worth of games. I would love to hear his real opinion, but he will never say anything.. He'll always tow the company line.

 

Tua has missed 6 or 7 games due to injury.

 

He's a "special advisor", which is a pretty non-descript term. That could be anything from a consultant to a board member when talking about a business (all depends on how much influence Ross wants to give him). So he almost certainly is honest in private, but as long as he has that kind of role where he doesn't have much real power he can't be saying things in public that would create the perception of conflict within the organization. So who knows what he really thinks.

 

Its not like they didn't have the option to bring him back. They didn't because he was terrible and there was no reason to.

 

I never said anything about him saying things in public and I mentioned his role on the team. I mean with guy like Dan Marino, you would think his opinion would carry some weight, especially regarding the QB position. It just surprise me.

 

You said he supported drafting Tua and Tua's contract. That's what he said in public. Like I said, we don't know what he said in private. As far as influence, well that's obviously a lot higher for Grier and McD than an advisor. Ultimately it's their decision as their job is on the line.

Regarding his influence.. I'm just responding to you being "surprised" his opinion (whatever it really is) may not carry much weight. It's easy to explain.

 

You never know, Marino’s public support of Tua could echo his private and behind the scenes opinion of Tua.

No one can just assume that if “you” (generic, third person inclusive) don’t think highly of Tua that Dan Marino’s opinion of Tua echos your own.

 

Yeah I'm just responding to what he actually writes. If that's what Sceeto is trying to say, then the question is why assume Dan hates Tua.

The McD + Tua combination putting up elite stats for 2 years would make it really difficult even in private for Dan to push an anti-Tua view even if we assume he actually holds that view (no evidence of that of course). At best, he (and any others who are anti-Tua in the Dolphins organization) would be making the argument based only on health concerns, but it's hard to imagine that view would have been influential at the time of signing the contract given that Tua played the entire 2023 season.

Garoppolo was a no brainer whether Tua went on IR or not in my opinion. Best case scenario Tua comes back early and we have the best #1 and #2 QB tandem in the league, which considering Tua's time out for injuries would be less a luxury than a necessity. Worst case scenario we have a very talented starter with the same backup who is now our #1. Grier is not doing a good job positioning this team as a serious playoff contender.
