Close to an agreement on multi year deal which will pay Hartline between $6-6.5 million per year

Hopefully the base salary is closer to 4 to 4.5 and the extra 2 million are performance based.

He's 26 and had not-terrible QB play for the first time in his career and put up 1100 yds.
He also never causes any problems, isn't a drops guy, has speed, knows the system, yadda, yadda.
I'm fine with $6 mileltos_lightfoot, MAFishFan, Larryfinfan and 1 other person like this. -
If $6-6.5 million is the average of his deal, then that will be including his signing bonus. My guess is, he will get close to the 3 year, $18 million number that got thrown out this past week. I'm not sure how much of that will be bonus. It's a fair deal for a consistent, solid receiver who is a strong route runner.oakelmpine, Tone_E, Larryfinfan and 1 other person like this. -
His deal might average out to 6 million a year, But I'm more concerned about his salary cap charge for this year and his guaranteed money.

If as reported, this looks like a nice deal. Obviously you'd like to pay him less, but that's not how negotiating works, and you have to compromise on a middle ground. Average at 6/6.5 M including bonuses, it is a nice deal for both sides, and keeps a very nice WR on the team that cannot afford to open more holes.
Now get speed in the draft. The Dolphins are in a nice position, with a young QB now, where they can afford to get young WRs to develop with him. They don't necessarily need to overpay for veterans. Jennings at 7/8 or Wallace at 8/9, otherwise it is overpaying and counterproductive to the long term plans of the team. -

Hartline has very good chemistry with Tanny. Better than any other receiver on the team it seems. I'm cool with keeping him as long as they don't stop there.

Smart move IMO. We are comparing Jennings to Hartline. Jennings recent injuries and age plus probably would have commanded 3 million dollars more. Hartline had a whole year in Philbin system and building a trust with Tanny. After his second off season I do not think Hartline knows any less than Jennings would about Philbin's (Dolphin Style Offense) Probably knows more because him and Tanny have timing. Go get Wallace now an absolute must!! Imagine Wallace drawing double coverage, Hartline is going to have a monster year.

Dont think he is worth that but whatever. Im more concerned with who we bring in (or dont bring in) opposite him.

This is a good, fair deal that benefits both parties. It will also give the Dolphins a bit more negotiating leverage with the eventual "#1" receiver, as we are not dealing from quite a position of desperation. (Make no mistake, however: the big fish still needs reeled in.)

Fine with it. Obviously this isn't the last move Ireland is going to make here for a WR (unless he wants to be beaten up and have his lunch money taken away that is).

for those that might be upset... the money being spent here screams #2 WR, not #1. And I think Hartline has proven he can be a solid #2.

I just think he's quite replaceable. He's a nice player if you have him on a nice contract - but now we're using up a lot of cap space on a guy that I think you could replace without a huge drop off. -
Ok the Bowe contract is even stronger in the first 3 years:
So yes $6 to $6.5 million is definitely #2 money now. -
I'm fine with it.

jboogie The sky is NOT falling!
Glad this is almost done, OK money for a solid #2.

He is fairly easily replaceable but a guy like Amendola will probably cost the same and if you're replacing him in the draft it's a complete crapshoot as to whether you will even get Hartline's average productionPhiNomina likes this. -
For the record, 250 yd games are anomalies for any WR. -

If it's more then 3 years I'm going to scream. Short term wise it would be manageable.

I don't hate the deal, depending on the structure and am fine with HArtline being on the team, but to me he's an ideal #3. An average #2, and we paid for a #2 -

I'm pretty sure the Dolphins know already what it will take to sign Jennings or Wallace. There has more than likely been some behind the scenes negotiations already going on. They're trying to sign Hartline with their decision of whether they can or will sign one of the other two already privately made. I prefer Jennings, and hope we see him as a first day signing announcement by the Dolphins.
